Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake reportedly in development at Aspyr
It simultaneously does and does not make sense.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (
KOTOR) remaster or remake have been floating around for well over a year already, and all signs are pointing to its being real and an earnest remake. Now, additional information is coming out to indicate that Aspyr, currently known for porting several
Star Wars games to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 and other platforms, is the developer of the
KOTOR remake. This information comes from Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier on the MinnMax Podcast, and Eurogamer also states that it has “heard of Aspyr’s involvement.”
Beloved Star Wars RPG Knights of the Old Republic Really Is Getting a Remake, Reports Say
Share:
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a game that s held dear in the hearts of many. The 2003 role-playing title, developed by BioWare before Mass Effect was a thing, leveraged the
Star Wars universe to create an intergalactic adventure driven by player choice and consequence. And now, multiple reports say that the previously rumoured remake is definitely happening.
News of this supposed remake first surfaced near the start of the year, when sources claimed that BioWare wasn t making it. That s apparently still the case, as both Jason Schreier (speaking on the MinnMax podcast) and Eurogamer believe that Aspyr is behind the remake project.

There’s been no lack of excellent
Star Wars games released throughout the years, but one of the most fondly-remembered has to be
Knights of the Old Republic. Created by BioWare in 2003,
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic spawned a sequel and an eventual MMO that’s still going strong to this day. There have been rumors swirling of a potential remaster or remake of
Knights of the Old Republic for quite some time now, and today we have more information on that front thanks to a new report.

According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Aspyr Media is currently working on a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Jason made the claim in an interview with MinnMax Show. At time of writing, Aspyr Media has not made a comment on this rumour so this is what it will remain, despite Jason’s track record to breaking stories about projects in the past including Assassin’s Creed titles. Disney has also not commented on the speculation about this remake.
This is not the first time this year that Jason has corroborated on the news that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is in development. In January, Bespin Bulletin announced that sources had stated a remake was in development but at the time it was unknown who the developer was. Now it is stated by Jason that Aspyr Media are that team. Aspyr Media is no stranger to the Star Wars games. The studio has already released remasters of Star Wars: Republic Commando, Star Wars Racer, and Star Wars Jedi Knig
“This is public at this point, I’ve basically confirmed Aspyr – which is the company that’s ported a bunch of
KOTOR games – is working on the remake,” he said.
The news has been corroborated by
Eurogamer who added that the game will be more of a remake than a straight port of the game.
As well as
Star Wars Episode 1: Racer, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy and
Star Wars: Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast.
They’ve also already released a port of
Knights of the Old Republic for iOS.
