after the white house defended the chief of staff john kelly for calling congresswoman wilson an empty barrel. the press secretary said quote if you are able to make a sacred act like honoring american heroes about yourself then you are an empty barrel so they are not backing down. at the same time, they also want to move on from this dispute. they want the public and the media to focus on other things, focus on more policy issues, like tax reform, but it s tough to do when the president himself is continuing to tweet about it and talk about it. fox s maria bartiromo asked him about it in an interview airing on sunday morning futures tomorrow and he explained just how difficult these calls are to make. these are tougher than dealing with the heads of countries, believe me. these are very very hard calls. they re sad and sometimes, you know, the grieving is so incredible. but he s just an elegant man and a wonderful man, and he is doing a fantastic job as chief.
fabricated this whole story about his exchange wit widow. i think this was a concerted effort. started with the white . you saw sarah out there, attacking the congresswoman, as well. you saw sarah huckabee sanders do it the day before general kelly did. and then general kelly comes out to attack the representative s credibility. i think he s not done himself any good because most of what he says what just plain wrong. he, in his statement, it s almost like he seems to be relishing these attacks on the congresswoman. essentially said stunned about something that never happened, right? she was stunned that she stood up and said things, but none of that ever happened. he always seemed to missed the fact that she was given a standing ovation after she
wilson. take a listen. this is going to be trump s benghazi, trump s niger and they need to concentrate on what happened and what is happening. so we know how much of an issue benghazi became. it became a political issue during the campaign in 2016, obviously investigation after investigation. do you agree with her assessment that this is being characterized or could potential become a benghazi-like situation for president trump? i think possibly so because we don t have all the answers. can we step back for a minute and remember that americans lost their lives and can we also recognize that we as a country are having this country on a sunday evening about the president of the united states getting into a twitter fight with a member of congress? this is just beyond the pale. i thought we couldn t get any lower but here we are getting even lower. if i was in the white house and frankly even if i was a member
place. he was so offended that a woman would be that somebody would be listening to that call. he was he actually couldn t believe it. actually he said to me, sir, this is not acceptable. this is really not. he knew i was so nice look, i have called many people. and i would think that every one of them appreciated it. i was very surprised to see this, to be honest with you. julie: kristen fisher reports from the white house tonight. president trump is continuing to escalate his feud with the florida congresswoman. what is the very latest between them? well, julie, just hours before the congresswoman was set to attend the funeral for this fallen soldier, one of the four fallen soldiers killed in this ambush attack in niger. the funeral for sergeant david johnson, president trump punched back on twitter by saying this, quote, i hope the fake news media keeps talking about whacky congresswoman wilson in that she as a representative is killing the democrat party. now, this come
families and their friends for the heroes who fought for us overseas. well, do you think that kelly should have stopped short of then criticizing the congresswoman, should have stayed with the point of talking about the gold star families and his experience in losing his son but stopped short of criticizing the congresswoman? because it seems like that s what most people are obviously criticizing. yeah, i think that it s just unfortunate that this is where the discourse around the families of folks who have died overseas, that this is the state of the political rhetoric in washington, to be really blunt. kaitlin, congresswoman wilson was also on this network earlier and again addressed kelly s remarks about her. let s take a listen to that. not only does he owe me an apology, but he owes an apology to the american people because when he lied on me, he lied to them. would an apology solve this whole thing from the president? would it shut it all down? although he was tweeting
