TPPF: Bill to End Energy Discrimination Sent to Governor s Desk

TPPF: Bill to End Energy Discrimination Sent to Governor’s Desk May 30, 2021 Share A top legislative priority of the Texas Public Policy Foundation has passed the House and Senate with a strong bipartisan majority and awaits Governor Abbott’s signature. Senate Bill 13 will prohibit companies that boycott fossil fuels from doing business with the State of Texas. “Wall Street banks and investment firms are colluding to deny critical financing to the energy producers we all rely on threatening Texas jobs, our economy, our energy independence, and our quality of life,” said Jason Isaac, director of TPPF’s Life:Powered initiative. “Senate Bill 13 sends a clear message that we won’t stand for this energy discrimination campaign killing American jobs, driving up cost of living, and shifting energy production to unstable countries with poor environmental standards.”

Texas Legislature passes bills to support fossil fuel industries

Texas Legislature passes bills to support fossil fuel industries By Railroad Commission of Texas on 5/5/2021 AUSTIN – Tuesday, the Texas Legislature passed two critically important bills that allow Texas to fight national efforts to eliminate fossil fuels. House Bill 17 protects consumers by prohibiting political subdivisions from discriminating against specific fuel sources like natural gas and coal; this will ensure cities and counties cannot pass California-style ordinances that ban gas hook-ups in new buildings or homes. “Winter Storm Uri exposed the importance of allowing individuals to have access to natural gas in their homes,” said RRC Commissioner Wayne Christian. “99.5 percent of customers connected to natural gas maintained service for the duration of Winter Storm Uri, ensuring they had fuel to cook food and heat their homes.”
