KATHMANDU, Nepal, May 5 2021 (IPS) - Children all over the world are having tough times while coping with the consequences of the pandemic but the circumstances affecting them in the Philippines are even more daunting.
The learning crisis that has been affecting millions of vulnerable children deprived of their education throughout the lockdown as schools remain shut, is probably its most visible example whose resolution will require strategic vision, long term commitment and a holistic dimension all together.

04 March 2021, Manila - Today, more than 480,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines arrived in the Philippines from the COVAX Facility, the international partnership established to ensure equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world. The Philippines is among the first countries in Southeast Asia to receive vaccines from the COVAX Facility. COVAX is co-led by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), working in partnership with UNICEF as well as the World Bank, civil society organisations, manufacturers, and others.

The DOH on Friday launched the Phase II of the nationwide Measles Rubella and Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-OPV SIA).
It will be conducted from February 1 to 28 in the Visayas regions, National Capital Region, Central Luzon and Calabarzon, the DOH said.
“It aims to vaccinate 5.1 million nine to 59 months old children for the Measles Rubella vaccine and 4.8 million children zero to 59 months old for Oral Polio vaccine,” the Health department said.
The DOH urged parents to bring their children to the health centers to avail the vaccines.
“We highly encourage parents and guardians to have their children immunized. The measles, rubella, and oral polio vaccines are guaranteed to be safe, effective, and free,” said Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.

CAVITE, Philippines – After a successful nationwide Measles Rubella and Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-OPV SIA) Phase I last year in the Mindanao, Cordillera, Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, MIMAROPA and Bicol Regions with a coverage of 93% for Measles Rubella (MR) Vaccine and 89% for Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV), the Phase 2 of the vaccination campaign will be conducted from February 1 to 28, 2021 in the Visayas Regions, National Capital Region, Central Luzon and CALABARZON.
