One of the more contentious votes happening in Bismarck was once again deciding the future of the Public Employees Retirement System, also known as the PERS board.
A special session of the North Dakota Legislature is underway to fix a budget bill problem and Gov. Doug Burgum wants an additional 91 million dollars in income tax relief.He is also asking for increased spending on infrastructure and destination grants.
Apparently, state lawmakers didn't need all 80 days this time around. Legislators adjourned early Sunday morning, capping off the most recent Legislative Session at 75 days.
Those opposed to the bill say removing one of the primary incentives to work for state government will hamstring a state already dealing with workforce issues.
