April 13, 2021 Rehoboth environment committee to meet The Rehoboth Beach Environment Committee has scheduled an online meeting for 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 14. March 12, 2021 Lewes budget meeting set March 12 Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet virtually at 1 p.m., Friday, March 12, to finish its discussion about the 2021-22 budget. Lewes council meets March 15 Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet virtually at 6 p.m., Monday, March 15, to adopt the 2021-22 budget. The group will also set a public hearing on an ordinance to amend city code relating to maximum building height in the community facilities (educational) zone. February 12, 2021 Milton planners to meet Feb. 16 Milton Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Grace Church, to discuss and possibly vote on a special permitted use for a cellphone tower at the town’s public works lot on Front Street. Applicant Cellco Partnership is requesting the special use to put up a 140-foot tower at 210 Front St. The special permitted use is required because the tower would be located in an R-1 residential zoning district.  The committee will also discuss and review a possible advisory report on a proposed amendment to the zoning code on the discontinuance of a nonconforming use.

RD20 Democratic Committee elects new leadership

January 30, 2021 The Delaware 20th Representative District’s Democratic Committee elected new leadership at its regular monthly meeting held via Zoom Jan. 21. The meeting began with a caucus to elect committee members and then the elected committee members voted to elect the officers. The new elected committee elected Joe Sakaduski as RD20’s chair, following the retirement of the former Chair Kerry Thalheim. Committee members also re-elected the following officers: Bill Weller, vice chair; Dennis Steigerwalt, secretary; and David Baker, treasurer. All officers were elected unanimously for four-year terms of office. In nominating Sakaduski, Thalheim said “Joe is a lifelong Democrat who has been active in the party over the years, including working on the campaigns of Democrats running in Eastern Sussex.”

January 8, 2021 Lewes Mayor and City Council meets Jan. 11 Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet virtually at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 11. The group will discuss the possible restructuring of police department staffing, and also consider reverting the zoning for the property at 203 Savannah Road from R-3, residential beach, to general commercial. The Lewes Junction Railroad and Bridge Association and Lewes in Bloom will make a presentation regarding a proposal for train cars and a replica train station on the right of way between the Lewes Public Library and the Margaret H. Rollins Community Center. Council will also discuss an amendment to city code related to fishing on public beaches. It will also consider a request to annex the property at 1145 Savannah Road, then consider adding a member to the parks and rec commission.
