sandra: this is a fox news alert. a major twist in the russia investigation at special counsel robert mueller makes a new offer to president trump. welcome to a brand-new hour of america s newsroom, i m sandra smith. bill: good morning, i m bill hemmer. the president s legal team now considering the proposal as they try to negotiate terms of a potential interview. mueller offering to limit key questions of obstruction of justice and we re running it down in d.c. where do we stand, griff? there are reports mueller is offering some concessions on questioning but fox news has learned in a letter responding to the president s legal team mueller has not agreed to demands to limit questions to the matter of collusion. sources saying he still wants to cover obstruction of justice as well as other topics. mueller apparently is willing to reduce the number of questions and willing to accept some answers in writing.
what is the chance that mueller s team would say if you sit down we will wrap up the investigation into you at this time? i m incredibly skeptical of that. you have to imagine that the president could walk in and say 50 things that special counsel s team has never heard before and they would run down every week. putting a timeline on that is complex and difficult. i think special counsel may have said after september 1st, the mid tellers are going to happen. any investigation wouldn t be closed until after that. that could be a drop dead date to finishing before the midterm. the only thing that the ends of summer could be real, as a rule you would investigate, interview the person at the top of the pyramid. you always sort of work your way up. when it comes to obstruction, it would be the president.
it s about us. i am sick and tired of being sick and tired. he will get through this. this is new day with chris cuomo and alisyn camerota. good morning. welcome to your new day . alisyn is off. poppy harlow is here. i need you this morning. president trump raging on twitter, demanding the justice department investigate whether it or the fbi spied on his 2016 campaign. the department asking its internal watch dog to look is into the president s concerns. meantime, the president s lawyer rudy guiliani said special counsel investigation of mr. trump, that s a key part there, of mr. trump, could wrap up by september if the president agrees to an interview with mueller s team. giuliani said he got that impression during negotiations with the mueller team over a possible sitdown. of course we are remembering texas. the city of santa fe, texas still reeling from friday s high
the president himself should not be involved in the day-to-day of the department of justice. the ranting the president has done about the department of justice saying it is all political. these folks have to go. everyone on mueller s team is a democrat. by the way, it is not true. he said there are politics involved in a place where politics should not be involved. now he is asserting politics into a place he said politics should not be involved blatantly. jeff sessions, his choice for attorney general, conservative republican, early trump supporter. what did he do when all of this came down? he did the right thing. he recused himself. he understands the office is bigger than him.
academic who teaches in britain. u.s. officials told cnn that the source wasn t iedded in the campaign despite statements from the president and his allies suggesting otherwise. for a long time we were told there was some kind of infiltration. i believe if there was an imbedded person, that person cleared us. giuliani also saying during negotiations with mueller s team over the potential interview, investigators say their obstruction probe could wrap up by second first if the president agrees to sit down and answer questions. this as a times reports mueller is looking into another controversial meeting at trump tower involving the president s son three months before the election. prominent trump supporter erik prince arranged the meeting with george nader.
