Grootfontein farm jackpot - Government

KENYA KAMBOWE RUNDU The Grootfontein municipality is scrambling to collect rent from tenants who rent townlands, with some paying monthly rent as little as N$820 for a 600-hectare farm. The farms - commonly referred to as camps - are situated in the country’s breadbasket known as the Maize Triangle. The town’s chief executive officer, Kisco Sinvula, last week confirmed that the municipality had sent out “dozens” of letters of demand. “The outstanding balance is classified and confidential information,” he said. Sinvula said those who failed to pay would have to face legal consequences. The Grootfontein council owns four farms measuring a combined 2 451 hectares, which it leases to third parties.

Kapofi defends his record ahead of corrupt defence switch - Government

OGONE TLHAGE WINDHOEK Newly appointed defence minister Frans Kapofi has defended his record on corruption ahead of his switch to the defence ministry, which finds itself at the centre of several investigations related to corruption. His appointment as defence minister, which Namibian Sun predicted days after former defence minister Peter Vilho had been removed, was confirmed on Wednesday evening. SME Bank Kapofi’s reputation came into question after his spell as board chairperson at the now defunct SME Bank, which lost millions of dollars in questionable investments. To this, Kapofi said when he left SME Bank, it was still a functioning entity and he was long gone when it was liquidated.
