bret: the top leaders in the u.s. senate are talking to each other tonight about ways to avert a partial government shutdown. it could take effect at midnight friday just three days before christmas. the administration says it s in regular contact with lawmakers and it s also looking for alternative means of funding border security. where are we? john roberts has the latest tonight from the north lawn. that s a good question tonight, the white house insists there should be no question as to what the president will and will not accept when it comes to a spending bill and at the white house has made those demands very clear to lawmakers in the senate. the white house also seem to indicate today that the hard mind it drew last week may not be so hard after all.
