msnbc political contributor, david jolly. daniel, we ve all been through that in some way or the other. going down the road, stopping a candidate trying to get the most out of him as they do make their way to a to b and you heard the question that vaughn was asking, and that had to do with the polling numbers in iowa. and bernie sanders dropping seven percentage points since april. while you see elizabeth warren jump 12 percentage points. what s happening there in iowa that explains why sanders is going down, warren popping? i mean, it s really more that warren is warming to areas of the democratic party that i think at the beginning of this cycle a lot of political observers didn t think she would. she is expanding her base beyond just the super-liberal, super-progressive wing of the party. to a lot of democrats she s emerging as a viable alternative to the front the other fro

meanwhile, michigan congressman justin amash explains his decision to jump ship from the republican party. the former gopper spoke with jake tapper this morning about why he chose to leave the party of trump. i think this term in congress has really shown how bad it can get. over the years i ve seen that people are just falling in line behind the leaders, including people in my own caucus, which i left. so it s gotten worse and worse, and i think this was the term that really broke it for me. let s bring in political national reporter daniel strauss and julian aguilar. let s start with justin amash. breaking the dam here? you know, i think his past comments, nobody was too surprised. the president s reaction is one you re going to continue to see based on republicans that speak
as you mentioned here, especially with the freedom caucus, that s of note. also of note that she s one of the lead voices when it comes to impeachment from those in the senate, daniel. look, fans of impeachment have really embraced congressman amash. they say, look, this is a house freedom caucus member calling for impeachment. it s that serious. at the same time, though, the republican party overall still holds trump in very high regard, and i don t think amash leaving or amash s calls for impeachment are really going to sway a broad swath of the republican party. when we speak about high regard, the latest abc news washington post poll shows that president trump is enjoying an increase in approval ratings, still below the midline, below 50% here, but still an increase. so julian, are we seeing a new
