The Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District reported Wednesday one COVID-19-linked death, 10 new cases of the coronavirus and seven recoveries. The deceased – a man in his 70s – brings the county s total number of deaths connected to COVID-19 to 402. The average age of the deceased is 75.  In April, Taylor County has reported 14 COVID-19-linked deaths, compared to 39 in March and 70 in February. The record of 87 was set in December.  Of the 10 new cases, three were confirmed via polymerase chain reaction tests. Active cases total 217 (108 PCR cases and 109 cases confirmed by antigen tests). A week ago, active cases numbered 162.  COVID-19 inpatients at Abilene hospitals total 16, the same as Tuesday. The average age of the inpatients is 58, and seven live outside Taylor County.
