shepard: part of the problem is all of the experts have evaluated it and say our infrastructure is collapsing and we need major, major work, across the nation, to fix roads and bridges and the roast. that could certainly be a way to get people working you have to figure how to pay for it. jonathan: that is right. anyone who has driven from washington to new york or from chicago to minneapolis knows how bad things can be. obviously, people would be going to work if they are rebuilding bridges and repaving roads but this will go back to the whole shovel ready thing, how quickly account jobs get off the ground? there are still jobs paid for by the 2009 stimulus that have not really gotten going and we haven t seen, you see the aara signs american recovery act signs all over the country but it has not redowned to the larger job market. people will work on the projects but we still have a 9 percent
stimulus dollars. they had to get it out the door by a specific time. one hand you are thinking that s a good thing. it meant a lot of repaving of roads. you couldn t do a bridge project because of the per am ters of getting the money out quicker. he said i had no idea there weren t that many shovel ready projects out there. in his defense, they repaved a lot of main streets and retained teachers, police officers and firefighters who would have been laid off without the stimulus. as far as building a bridge that was a shock to the president. he said i had no idea there weren t that many shovel-ready projects. there s a different
