(MENAFN - Kashmir Observer) Foreign envoys arrive at Hazratbal shrine | KO Photo: Abid Bhat Srinagar: A group of envoys, including those from several Europe Union countries and a few OIC member states, began a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. They are here, according to government officials, to have a first-hand account of the situation, especially after the recently-concluded local body elections.
Soon after landing at Srinagar Airport, the delegation was accorded a traditional welcome with a group of girls singing traditional Kashmiri songs, including Wanwun amid showering of flower petals.
The envoys, which has representation from six OIC countries Malaysia, Bangladesh, Senegal Ghana, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan were taken to Magam in central Kashmir amid heightened security arrangements in the city and elsewhere in the Valley, officials said here.
