Council chiefs ‘concerned’ by decision to end bailiff-enforced evictions Local authority leaders have expressed concern over the Government’s decision to end the ban on bailiff-enforced evictions on 31 May. Housing minister Christopher Pincher announced yesterday that the current ban on bailiff-enforced evictions, introduced as an emergency measure during lockdown, will end at the end of this month. He also confirmed that notice periods – previously extended to six months as an emergency measure during the pandemic – will be set at four months from 1 June. They will return to pre-pandemic levels from 1 October. ‘From the beginning of the pandemic, we have taken unprecedented action to protect renters and help keep them in their homes,’ he said.
