OTTAWA The Trudeau and Pallister governments have teamed up to provide a housing subsidy for Manitoba’s most vulnerable that should last for a decade. Dubbed the Canada-Manitoba Housing Benefit, the respective federal and provincial levels have earmarked $172 million in new funding over the next decade, starting in April, to fill gaps between housing costs and existing provincial welfare payments which suggests the latter don’t provide enough for those most in need.

Province of Manitoba, End Homelessness Winnipeg, and other organizations are partnering to deliver a Canada-Manitoba Housing Benefit from the Government of Canada. Over the course of eight years, $154.6 million is being doled out to help three specific populations find secure housing. The population include: • young adults who are transitioning out of, or have recently aged out of, the child welfare system • people who are, or are at risk of becoming, homeless
