RENSSELAER, N.Y. â The Rensselaer Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO) held a ribbon-cutting at its Family Resource Center (FRC) recently to celebrate the opening of the FRC s new STEM-inspired playground.
STEM stands for education in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math. It is a current hot topic in the education industry as more and more educational leaders call for increased emphasis on teaching STEM curricula.
The new playground at the Rensselaer FRC has many structures that are designed to inspire opportunities of STEM thinking and learning for the children that attend the daycare there. On the preschool side of the playground is a climbing structure that looks like a rocket ship, a pretend car that looks like the Mars Rover, a music station, and a structure with gears and other manipulatives that demonstrates cause and effect. On the toddler side of the playground is another cause-and-effect structure and a kitchen play center.
TROY, N.Y. â After a successful mid-pandemic shift to an all-remote format last year, GameFest â the digital-gaming festival organized by the Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences (GSAS) program in the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute â will again be held completely virtually this year.
GameFest 2021 will take place on Sansar, a multiuser online virtual platform, beginning at 1:30 p.m. on May 8. It will also stream live on YouTube beginning at 2 p.m. A full schedule is available on the GameFest 2021 website, https://gamefest.rpi.edu/. The event is free and open to the public.

A combination of remdesivir, a drug currently approved in the United States for treating COVID-19 patients, and repurposed drugs for hepatitis C virus (HCV) was 10 times more effective at inhibiting SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
The combination therapy points a way toward a treatment for unvaccinated people who become infected, as well as for vaccinated people whose immunity has waned, for example due to the emergence of virus variants that escape this immune protection.
Four HCV drugs simeprevir, vaniprevir, paritaprevir, and grazoprevir in combination with remdesivir boosted the efficacy of remdesivir by as much as 10-fold, the researchers reported today in
