The rise of offshore wind
Offshore wind technology is becoming increasingly mainstream. In 2009, offshore wind represented only 1% of global wind generation capacity, a figure which had grown to 10% by 2019.
1 In recent times, the rise of the ESG movement and the ever increasing regional and global pressure to transition to a sustainable future, as reflected in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the United Nations Paris Agreement on Climate Change, has increased the heat on the oil majors to join the energy transition. A number of the oil majors have seized on offshore wind as an opportunity to invest in ready-to-build assets at significant scale, allowing the oil majors to demonstrate high levels of capital expenditure on climate-friendly projects. Despite being slightly late to the game, a number of the oil majors now view offshore wind as an element of their own transition from international oil companies to international energy companies.

Chairman s Statement
On behalf of the Board, I am pleased to present the Unaudited Half-Yearly Financial Report for Foresight Solar & Technology VCT Plc for the six months ended 30 September 2020 and to provide you with an update on the developments affecting the Company.
ORDINARY SHARES
Performance and portfolio activity
The Net Asset Value per Ordinary Share decreased by 0.5p to 70.2p at 30 September 2020, compared to 72.7p per share at 31 March 2020, after deducting the 2.0p per Ordinary Share dividend that was paid on 25 September 2020. The decrease in NAV is driven by the usual running expenses of the fund, with steady valuations in the portfolio for the period. As reported in the Company’s Annual Report and Accounts released in July, the effects of COVID-19 on the existing investment portfolio remain reasonably limited given the nature of the underlying investments.

Fifteen years ago, hardly any of the electricity we use in Northern Ireland came from renewable sources like wind and solar power.
Polluting fossil fuels, many of them sourced from distant lands, were our staple.
But all that has changed.
In the year to March 2020, renewable sources provided almost 47% of our power, easily hitting the Northern Ireland Executive s target of 40% by 2020.
It is a remarkable achievement, good news for the environment and our energy security.
But the scheme that did much of the heavy lifting to get us there, the Northern Ireland Renewables Obligation (NIRO), is under ongoing scrutiny.
