As iowans dig out from this weeks winter storm, people across the country continue to face extreme weather. Some 18 million americans are facing flooding. Flooding. Most notably, just to the south of us in missouri. Parts of eastern missouri are under water, with the worst yet to come. Luckily the rain is over but officials believe many rivers, including the mississippi, will crest sometime tomorrow or friday. That only leaves hours for sandbaggers to prepare for the rising waters. Missouri in the midst of a very historic and dangerous flooding event. The amount of rain weve received in some places in excess of a foot have caused river levels to go to places theyve not been before. Before. One person is dead following a highway crash near fairfax today. The iowa state patrol says an suv driven by 49yearold terri skalsky, of walford, crossed the center line at the viaduct on highway 151 and struck another vehicle. Skalsky died. A third vehicle swerved to avoid the crash, which happened just before noon. Investigators s dont believe weather was a factor a fire on interstate 380 slowed traffic near North Liberty this afternoon. We captured this video from a nearby dot camera. The johnson ounty Sheriffs Office says nobody was injured, but they dont know what caused the fire. Traffic got moving again fairly quickly after it was put out. Cbs 2 2 ws roro along with darrahs towing as they responded to calls after the tow ban was lifted yesterday. They say the storm for them comes after the snow is done falling. Howard and 31 year old heather belieau. Officers found their bodies yesterday afternoon inside their home at the 39hundred block of center street. They also found two Young Children inside. But they appeared unharmed. Neighbors say they were shocked to hear about what happened. Ive been here three years now and its a very pleasant neighborhood, and yeah it s just tragic to know that Something Like this went down, anywhere i mean these kinds of things can happen anywhere. These are the 18th and 19th homicides of the year in des moines. Thats the highest number in more than 20 years. The city of des moines says more security measures need to be in place in downtown. This comes after a Fatal Shooting on court avenue. Police say 21 year old Edmanuel Perez was shot and killed at the intersections of 3rd and court sunday morning. 23 year old andrew boyd also suffered gunshot wounds. Nw counties had the worst of it with freezing rain and snow with some areas getting more than 6 of accumulation. That is also where roads are still icy in spots. Here in central iowa, we were warm enough for just rain with about 1 4 of rain today. Our temperatures should stay above freezing in the metro most of the night with a few rain or snow showers possible. Most of the showers will be metro later tonight, so our chances are looking good for decent roads come Tuesday Morning in the metro. However, it will be cold enough by morning in most areas to freeze up any moisture that is left over or falling from the sky. I dont think we will have much precipitation tuesday, but a few snow showers will be possibly mainly late in the day. Wednesday is definitely looking drier, but the clouds could be stubborn to leave us, so i think we will be staying in
