Workers Revolutionary Party ‘Asijiki!’ (Zulu for we’re not turning back) say striking workers outside Africa’s largest hospital the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Johannesburg HUNDREDS of thousands of workers across South Africa downed tools on Wednesday, February 24, as a part of a general strike called by the left wing South African Federation of Trade Unions (SAFTU). With 21 affiliated unions, SAFTU represents a total of 800,000 workers in the country. Demonstrations were held in major cities as most participants in the strike that begin at 9am, stayed at home and did not report to work. The largest of the demonstrations was in the country’s legislative capital city, Cape Town where marched to the parliament where finance minister Tito Mboweni was delivering his budget speech.

The Eskom crisis can be solved. An open letter to David Mabuza Issued by Kevin Mileham MP – DA Shadow Minister of Energy 12 Dec 2020 in News Dear Deputy President Mabuza: We’ve been down this road before… The announcement that the country would again be plunged into stage 2 loadshedding last night comes as no surprise. If anything, the surprise is that Eskom managed to last as long as it did without resorting to rolling blackouts. Just a year ago, South Africa was left in the dark for days, as Eskom implemented Stage 6 loadshedding. At the time, President Ramaphosa promised unprecedented reforms to the electricity supply and distribution model. The changes thus far have been minor, and have done little to open up the grid.
