We started as a celebration of earth day and celebrate our planet and celebrate healthy living. Its really just expanded to now a week long event as well as mobilizing people to volunteer events. To a conference this year and really setting trends toward health, wellness and environmental sustainability. This is the first year that you had a whole week leading up to the big events. The concert. It kicked off k5 runs. We had a little under 300 runners. It was a beautiful day. Sunny, 92 degrees. It was a great time. After the run we were able to have Fitness Instructors from the Heart Association and another hour and then we dispersed a lovely saturday here in d. C. We definitely have a lot of millennials from all backgrounds and shapes, colors and in our part of broccoli city and were definitely focussing on getting millennials to be more conscious about the decision they make with their health. With what were eating, how were eating, making it cool and fun to workout and running collec
Actually it is. Its under water. Youll see a bunker sticking up out of the water about 500 feet out. It used to be about 500 feet on the land. Now its 500 feet out in the water. Something is going on here. We dont make this stuff up. The key is for us how can we have cleaner air, how can we address the issues of rising waters . Delaware is the lowest lying state in the country. Its a real problem for us. In order for us to address this, we need to figure out how to do it together. And im not interested in seeing epg jam anything down your throats, but we need to figure this out together. It seems like you export a lot of electricity. Any understanding of the rules being contemplated here, you dont get a lot of credit for that. The credit goes to california and those other states. We have to be able to figure out how to deal with that. I want to ask you a question of the lady from california. It sounds to me like youre doing pretty well and you possibly have a cleaner environment and a
California and oklahoma are not alone. We know texas leads the nation in industry. Many states in the midwest as well as the west and south are taking action to ensure ratepayers and citizens against risk to reliability that come from 30 and inefficient coal plants by replacing them wordy dirty and inefficient coal plants by replacing them. We think the Clean Power Plan will encourage states to date broader advantage of strategies theyre are already using saving money, and invigorating economies across the country and to the extent they choose to Work Together around their regional grids, they will do even better because we know the regional approach will be more costeffective for all. We believe the net benefits of this plan amount to Something Like 48 billion to 82 billion in 2030 as well as greater productivity, lower cost, and a more efficient and secure energy system. The bottom line is it builds on 40 years of success. It now confronts us with an opportunity to address one of the
Research tract faculty. There are jobs in industry, journalist, many where needed and we want to be sure people find the right match for themselves. We have started new programs, an early independence award which im excited about which allows a talented phd to skip the post doc and go to an independent position. I go to the presentations each year and its the most exciting day of the year because of their vision and their ideas. Similarly we have this new award where you cant apply if youve previously had a grant and your valentines day has to be out of the box, a little wacky for you to be allowed to apply for that proposal mechanism. And when we look at the output it has been truly impressive. All that is great but of course it doesnt solve the main problem we have which is this loss in purchasing power for research. We can try to balance things as best we can, protect those young investigators. We can only go so far. I appreciate that. And resources are obviously key to this as well
Lady, jill biden, to puerto rico. We are honored to have you here. The people of puerto rico are very grateful for your steadfast support and highly appreciate your visit, particularly as we recover from Hurricane Fiona. I must highlight that this visit is not an isolated incident. It is yet another example of your commitment to the wellbeing of the citizens of puerto rico, which you and your administration have demonstrated with concrete actions for the past 19 months. That support has included total collaboration from cabinet members in key federal agencies as well as targeted initiatives and important policy areas such as education, Renewable Energy and economic development. Now in puerto ricos time of need, the Biden Administration has been working closely with us. As i have mentioned, femas collaboration has been instrumental to our islands reconstruction efforts. That has helped put our people in puerto rico back on their feet. My team and i provided the president and his staff w
