COACHELLA VALLEY, CA The Coachella Valley s representative on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors has been tapped to lead the Latino Caucus of California Counties.
On Friday, Supervisor V. Manuel Perez was elected to a two-year term as president of the LCCC, which is a coalition of Latino county supervisors across California.
Perez is Riverside County s first Latino county supervisor.

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA December 21, 2020, marks the winter solstice the longest night of the year and the planets will celebrate with a display for all Earthlings to watch.
What has become known popularly as the Christmas Star is an especially vibrant planetary conjunction visible in the evening sky, culminating this year on the winter solstice, according to NASA.
The star is actually the planets Saturn and Jupiter aligning in the sky from our view on Earth, and it s been nearly 400 years since the huge gas giants passed this close to each other in the sky, and nearly 800 years since the alignment of the two occurred at night, allowing nearly everyone around the world to witness the great conjunction.

In March, during the first week of the San Francisco Bay Area s first-in-the-nation stay-at-home order, KHN spoke with emergency department physicians working on the front lines of the burgeoning COVID-19 pandemic. At the time, these doctors reported dire shortages of personal protective equipment and testing supplies. Health officials had no idea how widespread the virus was, and some experts warned hospitals would be overwhelmed by critically ill patients.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA The number of people hospitalized due to COVID-19 surged over the weekend in Riverside County, adding more pressure to the health care system and increasing the odds of an extended stay-at-home order.
COVID-19 hospitalizations jumped to 1,239 patients Monday, an increase of 147 people since Friday, according to Riverside University Health System-Public Health data. Of those patients, 229 were in ICU, a jump of five since Friday.
ICU beds in Riverside County and the Southern California region are at o percent capacity.

SUN VALLEY, CA Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has been sued after several residents said the department did not notify them about a longtime methane leak at the Valley Generating Station. Public advocacy group Pueblo y Salud Inc. and the residents accused LADWP of fraudulent concealment, assault and battery, negligency, private and public nuisance, dangerous condition of property and intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
The plaintiffs are seeking unspecified damages.
According to the lawsuit, residents of Sun Valley, Pacoima and nearby areas have been unknowingly exposed to harmful chemicals for at least three years. The suit claims the residents, many of whom are minorities, have suffered from seizures, dizziness, shortness of breath and mental issues due to the exposure.
