A vast cemetery filled with humans and animals previously took Egyptologists working at an ancient site by surprise and provided a rare glimpse into how prehistoric Egyptians lived thousands of years ago.
According to British Egyptologist William Petrie, the "Father of Egyptian Archaeology," excavations conducted in the cemetery of Hierakonpolis indicate a fascinating discovery. Remains of animals that "came directly from the African continent" were discovered. The animals included "tigers, crocodiles, and ostriches." These animals had been preserved "to be seen by people who lived in the prehistoric era in Egypt." [i]
