To embed, copy and paste the code into your website or blog: On January 21, 2020, the far-reaching HIPAA Privacy Proposed Rule, initially released on December 10, 2020, was published in the Federal Register. 1 Despite speculation that the publication timeline would be altered when the Biden administration came into power, the Proposed Rule has not been withdrawn and the initial comment deadline remains in effect as we move into March. In the absence of a change in course by the current administration, comments will be due March 22, 2021. NC Democrats introduced a bill to remove abortion barriers

Democratic leaders in the N.C. House introduced the Remove Barriers and Gain Access to Abortion Act, or the RBG Act, on Monday that would eliminate many restrictions preventing women in the state from getting an abortion. If passed, the bill will also allow advanced practice clinicians and other medically trained professionals to perform the procedure, increasing the number of providers in the state who are not physicians, according to Rep. Julie Von Haefen, a Democrat who represents Wake County, is one of the sponsors of the bill. Von Haefen, along with other lawmakers and health advocates, held a virtual press conference Monday to discuss the details of the bill.

WGU Launches Equitable Access Initiative

Special to Devils Lake Devils Lake– Western Governors University (WGU) has announced a new initiative aimed at removing financial barriers that might otherwise keep adults from moving forward with their education and career advancement plans. The fully online, nonprofit university’s Equitable Access Initiative will specifically address job and income loss, internet access issues, health concerns, changes in childcare and schooling, and overall uncertainty resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.  As part of this effort, WGU’s Board of Trustees has designated $6 million in grant and scholarship funding to assist new and existing students.
