Experts expect announcements around millets and MSP hikes in the 2024 interim budget. There is a need to ensure food security, include nutrition in policies, and prepare agriculture for the consequences of climate change. The government should correct the consumption and food production basket by giving crop-neutral incentive structures. The expenditure on Research and Development in agriculture should be increased from 0.5% to at least 1% of agri GDP to address the needs of a large population and climate uncertainties.
