The kidney treatment unit at Helen Joseph Academic Hospital has been severely impacted by the recent water shortages in Westdene, west of Johannesburg.

This was revealed by the hospital’s CEO Relebohile Ncha on Wednesday afternoon.
If patients require haemodialysis (kidney treatment) due to having haemonal failure, if their treatment is disrupted for long periods, it can really lead to a lack of mobility or mortality.
For haemodialysis, we need consistent provision high volume of water that also has a purification that occurs, said Ncha.
