FOTO: news24 With the imminent threat of a third wave of the pandemic and much uncertainty about the vaccine rollout, more and more people are turning to what they see as their only option: Ivermectin an antiparasitic veterinary medicine. In South Africa the product is not registered for use in humans yet, as is the case in countries such as India and Brazil where it is indicated for use against tropical diseases in humans. However, the Gauteng High Court in February held that doctors are now allowed to import the human formulation of the medicine to treat patients with Ivermectin at their own discretion, but only after having applied to do so in terms of a section 21 application of the Medicines and Related Substances Control Act.
