EPA orders cleanup work at contaminated Cass Lake site
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has ordered two companies to cleanup a site declared contaminated in the 1980s.

CASS LAKE, Minn. Two companies have been ordered to cleanup contaminated soil in Cass Lake by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
According to a release, International Paper and Burlington Northern Santa Fe were issued an order from the EPA to clean up soil at the St. Regis Superfund site in Cass Lake. The site, within the bounds of the Leech Lake Nation, was once the home of a St. Regis Paper Co.
LOWVILLE- Edward W. âEdâ Mushtare, 93, formerly of Water Street and Valley View Courts, passed away on Thursday morning, May 27, 2021 at Lewis County Health System Nursing Home. The funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville with Rev. Mr. Ronald J. Pominville officiating. Burial will be in Beaches Bridge Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 11:00 a.m-1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to LCGH Fund for Hope, 7785 N. State Street, Lowville, NY 13367.
He is survived by a son Bruce and his wife Mary Jo, of Lowville: a son Rickey and his wife Cindy, of Glenfield: a son Randy, and his wife Elaine, of Martinsville, VA; a daughter Janice Foote, of Lowville: and son Brian, of Lowville: and a daughter Terri Davis and her husband Jeff Davis, of Watson; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Stephen and Randy
