Gomba remanded in custody on fresh corruption charge Prosper Dembedza Court Correspondent Former Harare Mayor Herbert Gomba on Saturday appeared in court on allegations of parcelling out stands meant for recreational purposes without following due process. Gomba (44) was charged with fraud when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje. He was remanded in custody to today for bail application. The court heard that during the period extending from 2018 to 2020, Gomba who was a councillor in Glen Norah and Harare mayor, connived with Emmanuel Mutambirwa, the Valuations Department head, to cause the creation of commercial stands at Old Hararians Sports Club open space.

12 arrested as Zacc takes graft fight to land barons  Senior Reporter The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has arrested 10 suspected land barons from Ruwa and two senior officials from Harare City Council for parcelling out land to unsuspecting and desperate homeseekers. . Two senior officials from Harare city council were alleged to have connived with the then Harare mayor Herbert Gomba and suspended mayor Jacob Mafume who was then Human Resources Committee chair, to illegally sell four commercial stands. They are Emmanual Mutambirwa (49) who is acting city valuation and estates manager and Daniel Usingarawe from the same department. They are expected to appear in court today.

By Anna Chibamu THE MDC Alliance has described alleged interference by local government minister July Moyo on the operations of local authorities and his failure to respect the Constitution as poisonous and destructive. The MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa is in charge of most urban councils including the capital Harare and Bulawayo, the second capital. However, MDC Alliance secretary for local government Cecil Zvidzai, Friday said it was time to challenge President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration for engineering the current problems bedevilling local authorities. He said Moyo’s interference could best be described as “fraud”. “The relationship between central government and provincial governments, between central government and local authorities can best be described as fraud with issues of interference, particularly at local authority level,” Zvidzai said at a press conference in Harare.
