APIA To Address Food Insecurity In Aleutian And Pribilof Communities Through New Federal Grant

Credit Jonathan Butzke / Talking Circle Media The Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association (APIA) is working to address food insecurity in the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands through a two-year grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. We will be working with tribes, as partners, and trying to better understand local food systems in the region and begin planning and designing a regional food system, said Suanne Unger, Wellness Lead at the regional nonprofit tribal organization s Anchorage office. Unger who s been working in the areas of traditional foods and food security for about 20 years said the USDA Regional Food System Partnership Program grant was awarded in late 2020, and will run through September of 2022.
