“I was trying to bring everything up to date in 2011, and I thought, ‘Well, this is it,’ ”
Seabloom told the Herald in a February 2020 interview. “It never even dawned on me at the time that there would be enough changes to justify another edition of the book just eight years later.”
Seabloom, of Grand Forks, said he learned about the Independent Press Awards recognition Friday, April 23, from NDSU Press publisher and editor Suzzanne Kelley.
“I had no idea that such competitions existed, much less nominations made by my publisher, NDSU Press,” he said.
The book also is a finalist in the Midwest Book Awards’ Nature Nonfiction category, in which winners will be announced Sunday, June 27, Seabloom said. In addition, the book’s cover, designed by Deb Tanner, is a da Vinci Eye Finalist for Cover Design in the 2021 Eric Hoffer Awards, and the book’s foreword is a finalist in the 2021 Ford Indies Finalists category for Regional Adult Nonfiction.
