New numbers released Friday by Region of Waterloo Public Health showed four more COVID-related deaths in the past week, bringing the total number of deaths since March 2020 to 500.
Region of Waterloo medical officer of health Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang says the community has passed the peak of the seventh wave of COVID-19, but the decline in cases is moving slowly. She added more waves of the virus are expected throughout the fall and winter.
Region of Waterloo Public Health reported five new COVID-related deaths in the community on Monday. As well, 146 people were in the region's three hospitals with the virus and 25 people were in ICU. There were 78 active outbreaks.
The number of COVID-19 cases jumped Wednesday to 57 new cases and public health also reported two deaths. The number of people in hospital also rose to 34 with 20 people in intensive care. Officials say all people currently in the region's hospitals are from the community.
