The business processes of the Auditor General’s Department, both technical and non-technical, have been certified to the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) Standard by the National Certification Body of Jamaica (NCBJ).
Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Audley Shaw, formally presented the certificate to Auditor General, Pamela Munroe Ellis, during a ceremony held at the Saints Peter and Paul Church Hall on Thursday, December 17.
In his remarks at the function, Shaw hailed the entity on the achievement and for “recognising the need to embed this quality system into the culture of the agency”.
He encouraged other ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) “to join the fold as we move to position Jamaica in its rightful place on the global sphere”.
Auditor General Pamela Monroe Ellis displays the ISO 9001 certification received by her department Thursday after completing a two-year quality standards exercise with the National Certification Body of Jamaica.
Jamaica’s ranking on Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index (CPI) poses a barrier to the Audley Shaw-led Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce’s efforts to woo foreign direct investment to the country, a global quality expert has said.
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Standards Ambassador Reginald Budhan said that foreign direct investment was crucial to growing the economy and creating employment.
In its 2019 CPI report, Transparency International positioned Jamaica as the fourth most corrupt state among Caribbean countries ahead of Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Haiti.
