President trump abruptly called off peace talks with the taliban and afghan leaders at camp david. Mr. Trump says the talks w woul have taken place this past weekend but were canceled after a taliban bombing killed an american soldier last week in kabul. Laura podesta is here in new york. What is the status of the talks now then . Reporter well, at this point its not clear when negotiations with the taliban might resume. And democrats and republicans say thats a good thing. They dont think leaders of the taliban can come to be trusted to a Peace Agreement anyway. President trump took to twitter to reveal that Senior Leaders of the taliban had been invited to camp david along with the president of afghanistan. The summit was aimed at fulfilling one of mr. Trumps key Campaign Promises ending the nearly 18year war against the taliban
It is calm in hong kong, but protesters there are refusing to back down. They filled the streets sunday in the weeks second recordbreaking protest. Organizers say there were 2 Million People there, though the police put the number at just over 300,000. The demonstrators are demanding the full withdrawal of an extradition bill they fear could mean dissidents going on trial in mainland china. And they want chief executive carrie lam to resign.
