doing a great job and rallying our partners and allies around the world. the united states has promised over billion dollars in humanitarian assistance for ukrainians fleeing for european partners who are collecting, or the ones who are receiving most of those refugees, he also said that it will take up to 100,000 in united states. that s why i think we should lift the refugee cap altogether and make sure that we are doing but we can t welcome people fleeing here in the united states from everywhere that there is conflict. that refugee cap as we keep circling back to when we have this conversation. congresswoman, part of the challenge here is even as we deal with these challenges abroad, there are big challenges here at home. i want to ask you about a very specific part of the president s domestic agenda. do you see a path forward on passing extension of the child tax credit in the senate? i think there has to be a path forward because it s simply unconscionable that we,
i m so glad you brought that up because as i do not need to tell you, there is a major humanitarian crisis unfolding. are there serious talks among your colleagues in congress about extending temporary protective status to ukrainians? it is definitely something that is being considered. frankly, i think what will have a bigger impact is lifting the refugee cap and making sure that we re allowing ukrainians who want to come to the united states to come here. in addition to everyone else who is fleeing from conflict. because even though this is the conflict that we re watching right now, war is not different depending on where it is. and we need to make sure that we re still welcoming the afghans, iraqis, syrian, somalis who are fleeing just the same kind of violence that we re seeing right now and opening our doors and bringing them into our country. congresswoman sarah i go on sara jacobs, thank you so much. tens of thousands are leaving that country and the number could grow.
the president has set, we have only resettled about 5,000 refugees this year. this system is precisely the kind of system that can support refugees. and so we need to see expedited processing. we need to see we need to see the u.s. surging consular support to the region so that we can also play a part, especially as this humanitarian crisis continues to grow. growing by the day. the images we are looking at now but also filled on social media and newspapers in recent days just heartbreaking, families separated, children walking on their own at times in tears. it is extremely moving. you talked about some of the policy possibilities, but what can regular people, what can people just watching this show right now, people who will see these headlines, be moved by the images, what can they do to help? so part of this, and we are seeing it, we have resettled a quarter of the ukrainian
