Crews partially draining Crab Orchard Lake for Spillway repairs

(WSIL) Crab Orchard Lake will look slightly different next week. Crews will drawdown the lake to allow for repair work on the spillway dam.
Workers will begin lowering the lake Tuesday and it will drop about an inch a day until levels reach 4 feet. Once the drawdown is complete, crews will begin working on the dam and assess repairs to docks and wildlife habitats.
The lake will not shut down, but because of low water levels certain docks or areas may be inaccessible. It is a shallow lake, it only averages 8 to 9 feet deep so there s gonna be other areas when you re on the lake where there ll be some islands and submerged areas that you re not aware of. So use caution when youre on the lake or putting your boat on the water at our boat ramps. said Neil Vincent, Refuge Visitor Services Manager.
