saying late this evening we could potentially see two inches an hour around pittsburgh. they re calling for no more than 7 or 8 inches. so they have decreased those snow amounts, but pittsburgh, what makes it different than other major cities experiencing this weather is city officials as recently as friday recognized that during the last major snow event, which was maybe a week and a half ago, that their response fell short and basically did not anticipate a refreeze event, so there were many side streets that became a frozen mess, paralyzing neighborhoods and forcing school cancellations. we heard from pittsburgh s new mayor as early as friday that residents can expect a significant improvement in the response. for the most part, we have seen that. you ve seen plows on the roads but also on the sidewalks, making sure the roads are clear, anticipating a refreeze event. it is going to be a holiday weekend here, it is a holiday weekend, so they expect that most people will stay off the
earlier this month came up short to the public works director they had not anticipated a refreeze event so that made a lot of the side streets here in the city of pittsburgh a frozen mess paralyzing different parts of the city here. what we heard on friday from city officials is they re going to increase the ability to try to respond to treat the roads before the first knowsnow flake started to fall and to have those plow trucks moving constantly to keep the roads clear and here is the thing, the big issue here according to public works is the ageing fleet of snow removal trucks. they ordered about a dozen new trucks but those have not been delivered yet because of supply change shortages caused by covid so it ties together right now in terms of the seasonbility to respond to keep these roads clear especially come tomorrow. yes, there is no school scheduled but some people have to get to work together so we re hearing from the state s governor tom wolf if you don t have to go out right
