and joins us live from the white house. i was surprised to hear what steve hild brand had to say. good morning. we ve heard this from pundits and outsiders but not somebody inside the obama inner circle. he came here to the white house yesterday to warn his colleagues without a big course correction he thinks democrats will take it on the chin in november. steve hildebrand has a stark warning for his old friend. there s a real shot we ll get slaughtered in election this fall if we aren t leading the efforts to reform washington. it s what we campaigned on in 06 and 08. reporter: he helped deliver iowa for the president.
nation s cities, correct, because this is happening in washington, d.c., and they had to go through a painful restructuring process. what does that mean for inner city schools? we hear about how they are not doing everything that they can for the kids. what is your sense of that? i don t think it s just the schools. i think in many cities and in my city, we have to build a much stronger partnership between the city government and schools. we are separate. i am a mayor who works with the city council, and there is a school board, several school boards that are separately elected. we need to be better partners and we need to work closer and better, and so in kansas city, at least, our failure to pay attention to the schools and the school district over 40 years
