[ applause ] that s what this new democratic party is about. when i say, you know, we kick em, i don t mean we do anything appropriate, we don t do anything illegal, but we ve got to be tough. let s bring in a strategist who worked on president obama s 2008 campaign, alana beverly, communications for hillary clinton, the former nevada state gop chairwoman, and republican strategist reena shaw. ladies, good to talk with all of you on this sunday. i m concerned about the norms of political culture. have they changed under this administration or are we just becoming too sensitive? well, i don t believe we re becoming too sensitive and i believe this has been an ongoing problem. when you have people at the top of your ticket, both leaders using rhetoric like this, saying that basically it s hopeless to converse with the other side and to use violent verbiage, it is very, very disappointing, it s
much. it hasn t even energized the moderate middle that perhaps is concerned about the way president trump is acting and heading down that road towards actions that could very well warrant impeachment. i think this is the real issue, and democrats and nancy pelosi or whoever new props up to be their next leader, they need to talk about the issues. and nancy pelosi of all people, really exhibited this last week. she couldn t say what democrats stand for anymore. so this whole impeachment thing, i think even their understanding that this is a no-win for us come the mid terms, we need to talk about issues and what we stand for and what our real policy positions are. that s the only way they can make the blue wave happen they talk about. okay. reena and peter. thank you, good to see you both. in a moment why the judge in the manafort trial says the jury is scared. and next hour the lies of george papadopoulos and the price he may pay for them.
reena, do you believe the action against brennan was timed to create a distraction from other things and can t imagine what that might be, omarosa and anything else. if so, why aren t more republicans raising alarms about this? well, i think mill mar said it best in his monologue last night. he said the reality show people have now become reality. that s a terrible thing. this week with omarosa was unbelievable. i think the white house couldn t take it. they had to roll out a distraction. let s do it with brennan one of the people that president trump genuinely hates the most it seems. what s most concerning here and what should concern herb, republicans, democrats alike, is that this is a mccarthy era tactic to silence critics. the threat sarah sanders took when she rolled out the revocation of brennan s security clearance. it was too much. i think republicans should see this for what it is. this is president trump trying to silence his critics.
statements, alternative facts, some of the descriptions of the president s friday claims that didn t match up with the truth. he claim the ig report totally exonerated him. but the report did not make any then he also down played his former campaign manager paul manafort s role and contradicted his own past comments about michael flynn. he blamed democrats for his own administration s policy separating children from their parents at the border. he went on to say north korea s problem is largely solved. and then he pushed back against the suggestion vladimir putin is responsible for the annexation of crimea by saying president obama is the one who gave it all away. let s bring in jonathan alter, columnist for the daily beast and msnbc political analyst and republican strategist reena shaw. good morning to you both. hi, alex. reena, how do you explain all of this. does the president know he s twisting the truth, or does he think he s stating facts? there s really no good answer her
terms. but the freedom caucus and its allies are not backing down. the freedom caucus is doing what s best for america. they re very principled and honorable men. and i think that we re trying to also let republicans know that if we pass something bad, if insurance rates are going up and 20, 250% a year from now, after republicans have taken ownership of healthcare, that won t be good for the party. jesse: some conservative political observers don t think the president s battle with the caucus is good for the party either. i think it is really, really unhelpful to donald trump s ultimate agenda to slam the very people who are going to be propping up his border wall. all the things he wants to do on immigration, on trade. jesse: joining us now to analyze from washington, to weigh in lena epstein, former co-chair for the trump campaign in michigan along with republican strategist reena shaw. so, reena, conservative
