Gary Huffenberger | News Journal VERNON TOWNSHIP A Reeder Road house was extensively damaged by fire Wednesday afternoon, with the initial call reporting flames through the roof. The entire structure has smoke damage, while the upstairs and the attic have extensive fire damage, said Clinton Warren Joint Fire District & EMS Chief Bob Wysong. The residents, Patricia and John Helterbran, were home when the fire struck but are not injured.

Even at its most crowded, the vibe is still bucolic and sleepy. In the winter months, though, the island gets even sleepier. The beaches and hiking trails are pretty much empty, and there s no line of traffic searching for parking spots. Sure, there s a bit less to do even the most dedicated exhibitionist will think twice about stripping down and frolicking in the Columbia when it s 45 degrees and drizzly. But there s still winter bird watching: There are 250 bird species that can be seen on the island throughout the year, and in late winter, there s still a chance to catch sandhill cranes before they migrate north.

Clinton County Sheriff’s reports: Impaired driver with gun; several incidents involving drugs WILMINGTON The following information comes from incident reports provided by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO). All those arrested are presumed innocent until possibly found guilty in court. The sheriff’s office recently processed these reports: • A 36-year-old West Carrollton male was arrested for allegedly operating a vehicle while under the influence, drug paraphernalia, drug possession, and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle at 2:15 a.m. on Jan. 12. According to the report, the suspect was found in possession of drugs, paraphernalia, and a loaded handgun with six live rounds around State Route 73 South and Airborne Road in Union Township. The report also indicates the suspect is a felon.
