The Hays County Local Health Department recorded its youngest COVID-19 related fatality among two deaths reported Wednesday.
The local health department stated that an 18-year-old San Marcos woman and a 60-year-old Buda woman recently died from COVID-19. Hays County has now seen 268 coronavirus-related fatalities since the onset of the pandemic.
The local health department also reported 256 new lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases, 54 recoveries, seven hospital discharges and five hospitalizations on Wednesday, which included information from July 24-26.
The county considers 915 cases active 200 more than Monday. Hays County’s active case count has risen from 177 on July 2 to the 915 tallied on Wednesday. There have been 20,312 total cases since the first diagnosis of the virus within its boundaries on March 14, 2020. Hays County has tallied 1,128 COVID-19 cases over the past 21 days. There have been 2,262 probable cases spanning from April 2020 through July 28, 2021.

Over 39,000 San Marcos residents have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose as of Monday, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
The DSHS reports that 39,374 San Marcans living in zip codes 78666 and 78667 have received one vaccine dose, while 33,680 residents have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus as of Monday.
Meanwhile, 106,700 Hays County residents have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Tuesday, approximately 55.44% of 195,999 eligible residents who are 12 years or older. Additionally, 125,389 county residents have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose 64% of the eligible population, according to the DSHS.
As of Tuesday, 94.82% of Hays County residents who are 65 years or older have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine, while 84.77% in the same age group are fully vaccinated.
Hays County’s active COVID-19 case count has now quadrupled since the beginning of July.

A Kyle man in his 30s recently died of COVID-19, raising Hays County s coronavirus-related death toll to 266.
Hays County continues to see an increase in COVID-19 cases. The active case count has more than tripled since the beginning of the month from 177 on July 2 to 565 as of Friday.
The Hays County Local Health Department recorded an additional 121 lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases, 46 recoveries, six hospital discharges and two hospitalizations on Friday, which included information from July 22-23.
The county considers 565 cases active 74 more than Wednesday. There have been 19,796 total cases since the first diagnosis of the virus within its boundaries on March 14, 2020. Hays County has tallied 678 COVID-19 cases over the past 21 days. There have been 2,224 probable cases spanning from April 2020 through July 23, 2021.
