The beach-house battle continues on South Ocean Boulevard in Palm Beach.
The Architectural Commission has given the cold shoulder to the design of a new house planned for a narrow strip of land between the Atlantic and the coastal road just north of Mar-a-Lago’s Beach Club.
At its most recent meeting, board members spent an hour reviewing the courtyard-centered house designed for 1015 S. Ocean Blvd. in the Estate Section. The majority of commissioners agreed the contemporary-style residence was overscaled for its lot. And they raised eyebrows about the four zoning-code variances being requested to accommodate the design.
“The variances are causing a problem,” said Commissioner John David Corey, because they would allow the house “to be far too big.”
