Police say light planes loaded with cash from drug deals have been flying under the radar by not logging manifests and using smaller airports such as Bankstown to avoid security checks and vehicle inspections at state borders.
Drugs, cash and weapons seized after police intercept plane
Detectives in Brisbane have seized drugs, cash and weapons after intercepting a plane from Melbourne earlier this week.
Three men, who are allegedly involved in an interstate drug ring, were arrested at Redcliffe Airport on Monday when the Piper Aerostar landed about 2pm.
A search of the plane uncovered approximately $1 million cash and marijuana with an estimated $3.5 million street value.

As a result, another 11 people were arrested when further raids were carried out at properties across Brisbane s north.
Police allege a further $1.5 million in cash and a significant quantity of marijuana was found during the operation.

Detectives boarded the Piper Aerostar plane after it landed at the suburban airstrip, arresting three men and another 11 following subsequent raids. They alleged the men were part of an interstate drugs syndicate that police have been investigating for 18 months. A search of the plane found $1 million in cash and a stash of cannabis with a $3.5 million street value. Search warrants were then carried out on houses and storage sheds across Brisbane s north where another $1.5 million in cash and a substantial amount of cannabis was discovered.

Queensland Police have arrested and charged more than a dozen people alleged to be involved in an interstate drug syndicate, after detectives intercepted a plane outside Brisbane.
The light aircraft left Melbourne and landed at Redcliffe Airport, outside Brisbane, around 2:00pm on Monday.
North Brisbane Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Senior Sergeant Ken Rogers said two people were inside the plane and were met on the tarmac by a third person, who had arrived in a 4WD.
