Scottish government s capture by corporate interests examined

MEMBERS of a group pushing for radical constitutional change have published new research examining the role of the Scottish government and its reported “capture by corporate interests.” The Red Paper Collective, made up of activists and academics from the Labour and trade union movement, have released Scotland United the fight for a Radical Scottish Parliament, arguing “neither unionism nor nationalism offer a way forward.” The study looks at the constitutional debate, which the collective says should have its heart an understanding of social and economic problems facing Scots. Red Paper editor Pauline Bryan said: “The parliament that was created in 1999 has fallen far short of the kind of parliament we need in the days of footloose, vampire capitalism.

VOICES OF SCOTLAND Redeveloping the Scotland United campaign

ALMOST 30 years has passed since the cross-party pressure group Scotland United was formed bringing together socialists, nationalists, liberals, communists and Greens together with trade unionists, representatives from the churches and civic society to campaign for a multi-option referendum on Scotland’s future.  Senior figures from the SNP like Mike Russell supported that position and marched alongside STUC general secretary Campbell Christie and a number of Labour MPs building support for the proposition.  This was a good initiative uniting political opponents against the real enemy, the Tories, who had caused so much devastation in our communities and who were entrenched in their opposition to any devolution of power.
