Healing, wellness and recovery is the theme of the 25th annual Spirit Run, formerly known as the “sobriety run” sponsored by the Red Lake Chemical Health Programs.
The gathering will focus on “what is working” when fostering success in people overcoming poverty, addictions, health issues, trauma and grief while using the traditional Medicine Wheel as a guide.
Sporting ribbon skirts and other traditional regalia, about 75 participants held up signs of support and marched along Highway 1 as a traveling drum group was pulled on a trailer to Red Lake Nation College where a traditional walleye feast awaited them.
A newly published children’s book by Red Lake author Elizabeth Barrett and illustrator Jonathan Thunder brings the Seven Grandfather Teachings of Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, Humility and Truth to colorful life for young and old.
