Newly renamed Punkin Fire burns more than 300 acres, 40% contained
The Punkin Fire burning in Tonto Basin was 40% contained as of Tuesday morning, according to state fire officials.
The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management tweeted Tuesday that the fire, re-named the Punkin Fire, started on private land as an escaped pile burn.
The fire was previously called the Pumpkin Fire.
Evacuations by Gila County officials were lifted, according to Tiffany Davila, an Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management spokesperson.
The department advises anyone doing outdoor burning to get a burn permit, check the weather and have a water source nearby. If using equipment that may throw sparks, make sure it is equipped with a spark arrester.
