Rectors plan to use extra funding to raise lecturer salaries

According to a social media post by Minister of Education and Research Tõnis Lukas, from 2023, funding for higher education will increase by 15 percent annually. However, university rectors say, that, in the current economic climate, it is difficult to know what the actual impact of these additional funds may be for higher education.

University rectors: Extra state money a good sign but won t solve problems

Under the terms of the intergovernmental agreement, funding for higher education in Estonia is set to increase. This year, an additional €10 million will be allocated to higher educational institutions, with the amount of funding also rising by 15% annually. Although universities had requested a sum of around €25 million to ease financial concerns, rectors say that even €10 million is a good sign.

TalTech researchers showcase green tech R&D

Top researchers and members of the Rectorate at the Tallinn University of Technology gave Prime Minister Kaja Kallas a 1.5-hour presentation of the university’s contribution to Estonian research and development and green transition. The Prime Minister was first shown the solar panel testing taking place at the climate chamber of the Laboratory of Building Physics, then the Laboratory of Roads and Traffic, and the Laboratory of Ventilation where an air distribution experiment was also conducted.
