After entering the NCAA transfer portal 10 days ago, former Texas Longhorns junior wide receiver Jake Smith released a statement via Twitter on Friday that provided some confirmation his time in Austin is over.
The decision to evaluate options outside of Austin came after the 6’0, 195-pounder missed the spring with a broken foot suffered on the first day of spring practice under new head coach Steve Sarkisian. The injury marked another setback for Smith after his sophomore season was marred by a hamstring strain that caused him to miss three games early in the season.

On Tuesday, Ross provided a time for his decision.
In mid-January, Ross received his first big offer from Baylor. Since then, he’s picked up offers from Oklahoma, Texas, LSU, and USC, as well as Arizona State.

With the announcement that Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian is now the 31st head football coach for the Texas Longhorns, the focus turns to how Sarkisian will build his first staff on the Forty Acres.
As Sarkisian has grown and matured in the years since several alcohol-related incidents led to his dismissal at USC, he’s put increasing emphasis on the value of his assistants.
Sarkisian compared being a first-time head coach to a fire hose and admitted that he initially tried to solve all of the problems by himself.
