What council plans to do about diseased Platypus Beach

Council is recommending people stay out of the water at Platypus Beach almost a fortnight after dangerous bacteria was detected there. A Mackay Regional Council statement issued on Friday said ongoing tests showed little change to moderate E.coli and Intestinal Enterococci levels. “Council recommends that members of the public don’t swim in the area,” the statement said. “Anyone swimming in the area does so at their own risk.” Platypus Beach, a popular swimming spot under the bridge at Mirani. It’s all leftover from the winter storm just the day before. One of those piles belongs to the Simons, a Temple family who heard something fall off of their roof Thursday evening. At first, they thought it was snow or ice. Come to find out, they were wrong. “I see this big tree laying over our porch and on the sidewalk,” Cody Simons, the homeowner explained. “With all the weight of the tree limbs; that s pretty much what happens this time of year.”
