WBGZ Radio 4/30/2021 | By Doug Jenkins - WBGZ Radio   After a year off in 2020 due to the pandemic, the Godfrey Park and Recreation department is bringing back Arbor Day activities at Glazebrook Park. On Saturday beginning at 9am there is a youth fishing derby. Other activities at the park will fill the afternoon. Fishing Derby registration runs until 10am when the actual fishing begins. That lasts until 11:30. Godfrey Park and Recreation Director Todd Strubhart tells the Big Z there is an awards ceremony at noon. Click here for Strubhart s comments The Arbor Day tree dedication runs from 1:30pm – 3pm at the concession stand area. You are asked to arrive 30 minutes early to get a good seat, and to bring a lawn chair. Redbud tree seedlings will be given to the first 300 visitors. WBGZ Radio 4/21/2021 | By Doug Jenkins - WBGZ Radio COVID-19 claimed the Godfrey Corn Maze in 2020, but it is back on the calendar for this fall.  It was a unanimous vote at Tuesday night s meeting. The plan is to plant the corn and hire The Maze Company from Utah to cut the design into it when the time is right later this year. Since they didn t do a maze last year, the plan is to use the 2020 design, which is a circus theme. Godfrey Park and Recreation Director Todd Strubhart tells The Big Z the plan is to have as normal an event as possible.

Godfrey will continue Glazebrook Park project Dylan Suttles, dylan.suttles@thetelegraph.com FacebookTwitterEmail GODFREY After their last board meeting, village trustees agreed to advance the Glazebrook Park Expansion project and Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) Grant. Before discussion at Tuesday’s meeting, Mayor Mike McCormick expressed concern board members were “a little rough” at the last meeting with Village Parks and Recreation Director Todd Strubhart and Village Engineer Richard Beran. “All that they have done is what this board has directed them to do,” McCormick said. “They were just doing their jobs.” In 2019, Godfrey applied for a grant through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for the first phase of the Glazebrook Park expansion. The application was successful and Godfrey will be awarded $400,000 for the project. Half of the money has been received and is being held until the completion of the project when a reimburse
