A woman whose family home in Loris was destroyed in a Dec. 14 fire urged the city council on Monday to staff the fire station around the clock. Wende Boyd told the council that it took far too long for volunteer firefighters to arrive at the house on McQueen Street, despite it being located just 1,500 feet from the fire station.
The first Laramie City Council meeting for 2024 mostly focused on suggested changes to this year’s budget as well as the Monolith Ranch lease and trash enclosure codes for downtown.
The special election to fill a vacant Loris City Council seat will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, Mayor Michael Suggs reported at the Monday, Jan. 8 council meeting. A filing period for candidates will run from Jan. 19 to Feb. 2. The new council member will serve a four-year term, and receive $3,120 per year in compensation.
